Applicability: ISO 8723 applies to the aluminum production industry. Specifically, it defines a solvent-based testing method used to determine the exact oil content of calcined coke.

Purpose: Calcined coke is often treated with oil to suppress dust during loading and transportation. ISO 8723 specifies a solvent extraction process (typically using dichloromethane) to measure the exact amount of oil adhering to the particles by calculating the mass lost during extraction.
