Volatile Residue by Muffle Furnace

Applicability: EPA Method 160.4, also known as “Residue, Volatile (Gravimetric, Ignition at 550°C)”, is used to determine the amount of volatile residue in a sample by measuring the weight loss upon ignition at 550°C. This method is primarily used to estimate the organic matter content in various types of water and wastewater samples.

Purpose: The main purpose of Method 160.4 is to quantify the volatile portion of the total residue in a sample by measuring the weight loss after ignition.
