Non-filterable Residue by Drying Oven
Applicability: EPA Method 160.2 is used to determine non-filterable residue in water samples, also known as total suspended solids (TSS). It’s a gravimetric method, meaning it relies on weighing the residue remaining after filtering a water sample through a specific filter. The difference between the initial weight of the filter and the weight of the filter after drying the residue is used to calculate the concentration of non-filterable residue.
Purpose: Method 160.2 quantifies the amount of solid material that is retained on a filter after a water sample is passed through it. This material is considered non-filterable or suspended solids.
