Filterable Residue by Drying Oven
Applicability: EPA Method 160.1 is a method used to determine the amount of filterable (dissolved) solids in water and wastewater samples. It is a gravimetric method, meaning it relies on weighing the residue after evaporation and drying. The method is primarily used for determining Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in various water sources and wastewater discharges.
Purpose: The core purpose of EPA Method 160.1 is to quantify the amount of dissolved solids in a water sample that pass through a specific filter. This is achieved by evaporating a known volume of the sample and then drying the residue at 180°C to remove all the water and volatile compounds.
