pH Electrometric Measurement

Applicability: EPA Method 9040C, part of the SW-846 series, is an electrometric procedure used to measure the pH of aqueous and some multiphase wastes, specifically those where the aqueous phase is at least 20% of the total volume. The method is used to determine if a waste is corrosive, a characteristic defined by having a pH less than or equal to 2 or greater than or equal to 12.5.

Purpose: Method 9040C is designed to measure the acidity or alkalinity of aqueous and multiphase waste samples.
