Volatile Matter in the Analysis of Particulate Wood Fuels

Applicability: This procedure applies to particulate wood fuel samples received or generated by Conti Testing Laboratories, Inc. (CTL), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
1.1. Matrix or Matrices: Sanderdust, sawdust, pellets, green tree chips, hogged fuel, and other type of particulate wood fuels having a maximum particulate volume of 16.39cm3 (1 in.3)..
1.2. Holding Time: None.
1.3. Preservation: None.
1.4. Interferences: None.
| 1.5. Sample collection and shipment: sample containers are unpreserved, plastic or glass.

Purpose: The purpose of this procedure is to provide a method for determination of the percentage of gaseous products (volatile matter) in a sample by heating the sample under rigidly controlled conditions.
