Analysis of Titanium and Titanium Alloys by Direct Current Plasma and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (Performance-Based Test Methodology)
Applicability: ASTM E2371 applies to the chemical analysis of titanium and titanium alloys using ICP-AES and DCP-AES techniques. It covers major, minor, and trace alloying elements including aluminum, vanadium, iron, and others across specified quantitative ranges. It is primarily intended to verify compliance with compositional specifications under ASTM Committee B10, and is widely used in aerospace, biomedical implant, and chemical process industries.
Purpose: ASTM E2371 provides a performance-based methodology for determining the elemental composition of titanium and titanium alloys using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and direct current plasma atomic emission spectrometry (DCP-AES). Its purpose is to ensure accurate, reproducible elemental analysis results while allowing laboratory flexibility in instrumentation and sample preparation, provided that performance criteria for precision and bias are met.
