Determination of the Six Major Rare Earth Elements in Fluid Catalytic Cracking Catalysts, Zeolites, Additives, and Related Materials by Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy

Applicability: ASTM D8088 is applicable to the analysis of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts, rare earth exchanged zeolitic materials, additives, and related materials for the six most common rare earth elements (lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, and europium) using ICP-OES. It is used by catalyst manufacturers, petroleum refiners, and environmental authorities for quality verification, performance evaluation, and compliance programs.

Purpose: ASTM D8088 provides a standardized ICP-OES practice for determining the concentration of the six major rare earth elements in FCC catalysts and zeolitic materials. Its purpose is to assess catalyst chemical composition as an indicator of catalyst performance and process parameters in fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) operations, supporting quality verification and regulatory compliance evaluation.
