Direct Moisture Content Measurement of Wood and Wood-Based Materials

Applicability: ASTM D4442-20 is the standard test method for directly measuring the moisture content (MC) of wood, veneer, and wood-based materials, including those with adhesives or additives. It outlines primary (oven-drying) and secondary (distillation/other) methods for accuracy in research or commercial applications.

Purpose: The purpose of ASTM D4442 is to establish accurate, standardized procedures for determining the percentage of moisture in wood, allowing for compliance with industry specifications. It acts as a primary reference (Method A) for high-precision research or calibration and secondary methods (B-D) for industry, ensuring quality control by preventing defects like warping.
