Total Ash Content of Activated Carbon
Applicability: ASTM D2866 is a standard test method designed to determine the total ash content (inorganic matter) in activated carbon, typically performed by burning a dried sample in a muffle furnace at 650 ± 25°C. This measurement helps evaluate the purity, quality, and potential performance of the carbon in applications like water treatment or gas purification.
Purpose: The primary purpose of ASTM D2866 is to measure the total amount of incombustible mineral matter, or ash, remaining after the organic portion of the activated carbon is oxidized.
