Determination of the Plastic Properties of Coal by Gieseler Plastometer

Applicability: This procedure applies to all samples received and analyzed at Conti Testing Laboratories, Inc. (CTL), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the plastic behavior of coal.

Purpose: The purpose of this procedure is to provide a method for the measurement of the fluidity of coal using a plastometer. The plastometer applies constant torque to a stirrer in a crucible charged with coal, while uniformly heated through a defined temperature range.
