Measurement of Solids in Water
Applicability: ASTM C1603 applies to the measurement of solids content and density of water intended for use as mixing water in ready-mixed concrete. It is specifically applicable when one or more water sources include wash water from concrete production operations or water containing suspended solids, and is used to verify compliance with solids content limits specified in ASTM C1602/C1602M.
Purpose: ASTM C1603 provides standardized procedures for determining the solids content of mixing water used in concrete production, expressed in parts per million (ppm) or percent by mass. Its purpose is to establish the relationship between water density and solids content, enabling concrete producers to monitor and control the quality of recycled or reclaimed wash water for compliance with mixing water specifications.
