Sieve Analysis of Fine and Coarse Aggregates
Applicability: ASTM C136/AASHTO T27 are standard test methods for determining the particle size distribution (sieve analysis) of fine and coarse aggregates, crucial for ensuring the quality and suitability of materials used in construction applications like concrete and asphalt.
Purpose: ASTM C136/AASHTO T27 are standardized procedures for determining the gradation (particle size distribution) of aggregates, which are materials like sand, gravel, and crushed stone used in concrete and asphalt mixes. The tests involves passing a sample of dry aggregate through a series of sieves with progressively smaller openings. The amount of material retained on each sieve is then measured, and this data is used to create a particle size distribution curve.
