Standard operating procedure for soil organic carbon – Walkley-Black method Titration and colorimetric method
Applicability: The Walkley-Black method is a technique used to determine the organic carbon content in soil samples. It involves oxidizing the organic matter in the soil with a known amount of potassium dichromate in a sulfuric acid solution, and then titrating the remaining dichromate to quantify the amount of carbon.
Purpose: The primary purpose is to measure the amount of organic carbon present in a soil sample.
