Determination of organic carbon by sulfochromic oxidation

Applicability: ISO 14235 specifies a spectrometric method for determining organic carbon content in air-dry soil samples using sulfochromic oxidation. It is applicable to all types of soil, provided they do not contain significant amounts of mineral-reducing compounds like chloride or iron.

Purpose: ISO 14235:1998 specifies a laboratory method for determining the organic carbon content in air-dry soil samples using sulfochromic oxidation and spectrophotometric measurement. Its purpose is to quantify soil organic matter via oxidation with potassium dichromate and sulfuric acid at 135°C.
