Standard Test Method for Dynamic Viscosity and Density of Liquids by Stabinger Viscometer (and the Calculation of Kinematic Viscosity)
Applicability: ASTM D7042 is a standard test method for determining the dynamic viscosity and density of liquids, especially petroleum products and crude oils. It is widely used in various industries, including petroleum, automotive, and chemical, to assess the flow characteristics and other properties of liquids. The standard is applicable to Newtonian fluids and involves measuring dynamic viscosity and density, from which kinematic viscosity can be calculated.
Purpose: ASTM D7042 provides a procedure for measuring the dynamic viscosity of liquids. Dynamic viscosity, also known as absolute viscosity, is a measure of a fluid’s resistance to flow.
