Bulk Density (“Unit Weight”) and Voids in Aggregate

Applicability: AASHTO T 19 (or ASTM C29) is a standard test method used to determine the bulk density (“unit weight”) and voids in aggregates. It is applicable to aggregates with a nominal maximum size not exceeding 125 mm (5 in). This test method can be applied to both fine, coarse, and mixed aggregates.

Purpose: This test method is used to determine the unit weight of aggregates in both compacted and loose conditions, as well as to calculate the voids between particles.
