Bomb Preparation Method for Solid Waste
Applicability: EPA SW-846 Method 5050 is a sample preparation procedure used to determine total halogen (chlorine, fluorine, bromine) and sulfur content in solid waste, oils, fuels, and related materials. It uses oxygen bomb combustion to oxidize samples, releasing analytes into a solution for subsequent analysis via ion chromatography or titration.
Purpose: The purpose of EPA Method 5050 is to prepare samples for analysis of total halogens (specifically chlorine) and sulfur. It is suitable for solid waste, virgin/used oils (crankcase, hydraulic, diesel), fuels, and kerosene.
