| Field Technician | Full-Time | Field Technicians are responsible for driving a company truck to job sites, collecting samples, and bringing them back to the lab for prep and testing. This position requires a moderate amount of lifting and applicants should be able to lift around 50 pounds several times throughout the day. The primary material that will be sampled is coal. The field technician is responsible for keeping accurate documentation of sample data and environmental conditions under which the material was sampled. Field technicians will also determine the amount of material that has been loaded into barges. This is done through weight determination techniques, also known as barge gauging. | Minimum high school diploma; Valid driver's license required. |
| Laboratory Technician | Full-Time | Acting under the supervision of the lead analyst, this position performs both routine and specialized sample preparation and analysis. The Lab Technician performs routine analyses in accordance with analytical methodologies and CTL's standard operating procedures. Routine analysis can include utilizing calorimeters, high temperature ovens, carbon-hydrogen-sulfur-nitrogen anlayzers, spectrophotometers, mercury analyzers, Ion Chromatographs, basic wet chemistry and other specialized laboratory equipment. Lab techs assist the Lead Analyst and Technical Director in the development of specialized testing protocols. Perform sample analysis in a timely fashion, meeting any applicable analytical holding times and project due dates. Keep accurate documentation on all sample data and analytical conditions under which analysis was performed. Perform and document daily calibration checks. Perform and document routine equipment maintenance. Notify supervisor regarding instrument, analysis and data issues. Effectively communicate with employees in all work areas regarding the status of samples and projects. | Minimum high school diploma. Degree in chemisty or related field preferred but not required. |
| Prep Technician | Full-Time | Acting under the suprevision of the lead prep technician, this position performs routine prep of coal and coke samples in preparation for lab analysis. This position requires a moderate amount of lifting and applicants should be able to lift around 50 pounds several times throughout the day. The prep technician must keep accurate documentation on all data and conditions under which preparation was performed. The prep technician must monitor machines that automatically measure, sort, or collect samples. Weigh materials to verify packaging weights quantities. Perform and document daily calibration checks. Perform and document routine equipment maintenance. Adjust, clean, or repair products or processing equipment to correct defects found during inspection. Notify supervisor regarding equipment and/or sample issues. Effectively communicate with employees in all work areas regarding the status of samples and projects. | Minimum high school diploma. |
